Hi friends! It has been awhile! With grad school, full-time work, and trying to maintain somewhat of a social life, blog life has been put on the back burner. But I am excited to stop by today and tell you a little bit about my winter time skin routine.
First, you should know that I live in Minnesota where the winter air makes everything dry as a bone. Skin, lips, hair (luckily I do not have to worry about this one), and nails. Winter is one of my favorite seasons, but the dry air definitely impacts my skin health and hydration. If I don’t change up my skin care routine over the winter, my skin is left dry, cracked, and dull. Luckily, I found some ways to incorporate more hydration into my everyday routine. If you live in a dry climate or are looking for ways to hydrate your skin, check out these tips below.
Drink Lots of Water
This one is hopefully a no brainier, but I find myself forgetting to increase my water intake in the winter. The body’s response to thirst significantly diminishes in cooler temperatures. Even if you do not feel thirsty, it is important to drink lots of water each day to avoid dehydration, regulate your body temperature, and enhance your overall well being. Water intake also helps your body push key nutrients and oxygen through your body and to your skin, making it healthier.
Over the Minnesota winter months, I keep lotion everywhere – in my purse, next to bed, in the bathroom, in my desk drawer, in the car. It may sound excessive, but I find myself needing to moisturize multiple times a day, especially on my face and hands. Ensuring you have high quality moisturizer is essential to keeping your skin healthy in the winter. This is also true for dry lips. Many chapsticks actually provide you with instant relief, but then dry your lips out more in the long run. Check into the kind of lip products you are using and invest in lip balm that will actually keep your lips hydrated.
Use Hydrating Neutrogena® Make Up Products
Finally, one of the simplest ways I avoid dry skin in the winter is using hydrating, higher quality make up. The Hydro Boost line from Neutrogena® is not only incredibly helpful to avoiding dry and dull skin, but also comes in a variety of fun colors and shades. The lightweight foundation hydrates for 24 hours, leaving a smooth, fresh base all day. I usually don’t use concealer on an everyday basis, because it dulls my skin, but I have had great luck with their hydrating concealer under my eyes, masking darker spots (thanks grad school). And my favorite products to use in tandem is the hydrating lip treatment and lip shine. These products keep my lips so soft and plump throughout the day!
