I brag about the Twin Cities for many reasons, but the food and drink selection is especially unique. There is an extraordinary amount of places to try with an unlimited amount of new items to taste test. I could live here for the rest of my life and keep finding fresh eats and tasty drinks.
We often take out of town guests to local breweries since there are many well known ones to choose from. Fulton, Indeed and Summit are a few you may be familiar with, but there are many, many more! Even the smaller, quieter breweries provide fun environments and delicious beer. Out of the 108 breweries in Minnesota, we brought my family to Surly Brewing Co. most recently. Located in the heart of Prospect Park, Surly’s environment is hopping. It is always buzzing on the nights and weekends, but with just the right amount of people. As an extrovert, it is energizing to be around so much life and excitement.
The indoor space, known as the beer hall, is huge with community tables for groups to congregate and share time together. Although the indoor space is pretty sweet, the outdoor area is incomparable to other Minnesota breweries, in my opinion. People can enjoy the patio seating, fire pits, bean bag games and grassy areas outside. Surly’s tap list rotates regularly, giving us the perfect excuse to go back often. Jacob’s current favorite beer is Todd the Axe Man, while I prefer the Gose. We spent this Midwest night losing lawn games to my father, who is a bean bag master, and enjoying the sweet company of family. Surly Brewing Co. is high on our list of local Minnesota breweries. Give it a try for yourself if you are in the area!
