The Essential Road Trip Bag

Best tips for packing an essential bag full of snacks and goodies for road trips!

Road trips are my jam. Jake and I are road tripping out to Colorado next week and we cannot wait to crank the tunes, set cruise control and hit the road. By far the best part of preparing for road trips, however, is packing the snack bag. I love snacks. If I could forego meals and just eat snacks, I’d be one happy camper. Packing the snack bag in our family is a big deal. There needs to be a balance of fun, healthy and sustaining snacks that won’t make too much of a mess. But they also have to be yummy and road trip snack-worthy. Talk about pressure to get it right!

We always pack an road trip bag filled with the essentials so we don’t need to stop as often. I would way rather power through long drives to get to our destination faster, than stop every hour or two. Although snacks are my favorite part to pack, our road trip bag is filled to the brim with anything we may need to satisfy us in the car. I’ve created a list of everything included in our essential road trip bag so you are prepared for your next cross-country adventure. And you better believe I made a list of my favorite road trip snacks, because we can all appreciate yummy treats and full bellies.

Essential Road Trip Snacks

My essential road trip snacks include several of the classics like licorice, trail mix and gummies, because who can actually go on a road trip without these? I also pack a few of our personal favorites like nuts and puppy chow. Because health and balance is important while traveling (and all the time for that matter), I always include easy, yet nutritious snacks to munch on like apples, oranges, bananas and FLYJOY bars. Not only do these provide sustenance, but great flavor without the guilt.

  • Licorice
  • Apples, Oranges and Bananas
  • FLYJOY Bars
  • Puppy Chow
  • Almonds, Cashews and Peanuts
  • Chex Mix
  • Gummies
  • Trail Mix
  • Gum or Mints

Essential Road Trip Supplies

Although snacks can occupy me for the majority of road trips, there are definitely a few personal items that keep everyone happy and comfortable. These items are easy to grab from the house and put in your travel bag. I will definitely be drinking all the water and reading all the books on our way to Colorado!

  • Wet Wipes
  • Refillable Water Bottles
  • Socks
  • Books and Magazines
  • Sunglasses
  • Cell Phone Charger
  • Chapstick
  • Headphones
