Make Your Own May Day Basket

Let someone know you care with a DIY surprise May Day basket!I can’t believe April is coming to a close, the trees are blooming and spring is here. I can never decide which season is my favorite as I love them all! Just when I start becoming partial to one, another season comes along and blows me away with beauty. Right now I am really loving spring, but of course that may change once summer rolls around.

Although my love for each season varies, May Day has always been one of my favorite holidays to celebrate. How could I not love a holiday that encourages thoughtfulness, surprises and giving? Those are my loves in a nut shell! It kind of sneaks up on people each year, which makes it even more fun to surprise friends and families with little goodies. Celebrating May Day does not take anything extravagant — just the initiative to let someone know you are thinking of them. It is like the epitome of encouraging someone “just because.”

As I was thinking of what to include in this year’s May Day baskets, the Target dollar section caught my eye. Let’s be real, though, when does it not catch my eye and my money these days? There are so many cute, practical goodies that can be put together to make your own May Day basket. I personally went for a spring themed basket, it is May 1st after all, and compiled everything pastel colored. I filled my May Day baskets with a set of cards and stationary, floral pencils, a daisy grow kit and two kinds of chocolate (can’t go wrong with chocolate)! All in all the whole May Day basket cost less than $10.

May Day is coming up this Sunday, May 1st. Write your friend a card, bring your mom flowers, leave a basket behind your neighbor’s door. Whatever your giving style is, I consider you to do a little something extra for your loved ones this May Day!

  • I love this idea! I, truthfully, had no idea what May Day was for, ha! What a lovely way to be thoughtful. That pink basket is so cute!

    • Thanks, friend! Any excuse to give a gift and show love to someone, right? And I know, I love the pink basket. As much as we text and joke about the Target dollar section, it sucks me in almost every time with something different, ha!

  • This is so fun! I didn’t know May Day was a holiday! I really love the little basket you made up! Do you like give baskets to your kids (like Easter?) or like to everyone?!! I’m so intrigued!

    • Well, it may not technically be a holiday anymore, but I definitely count it as one! When we were little, my sister and I always made little paper baskets, put treats in them and delivered them on the neighbor’s doorstep without them looking. Now that we are obviously grown, I still like doing a little something for loved ones!

I never remember May Day, but I have fond memories of making surprises for friends and family when I was in elementary school. How special the people who receive your baskets are going to feel!

    • Yes!! Elementary school is exactly where this love for May Day came from! It is so fun to give little surprises and treats all year round!

  • I am the worst at remembering May Day. It was one of the few holidays we never celebrated growing up. This basket is such a great idea!
